Dickinson City Commission

Dickinson operates under a City Commission form of government. There are five city commissioners, including the city commission president each of whom are elected at-large. City commission terms are four years in length with elections held every two years, hence in one election two positions are elected and two years later three positions are elected. The Dickinson City Commission abandoned portfolio assignments in the late 1990s and assigned these responsibilities to the city administrator

Badlands Dinosaur Museum

Located at the Dickinson Museum Center. 13,400 sq. ft. museum houses thousands of rock, mineral and fossil specimens from around the world, including a complete Triceratops skull discovered just west of Dickinson. Fourteen full-scales dinosaurs and a luminous mineral display will be the highlight of any child’s vacation.  The gift shop offers lots of variety of items, including minerals, fossils specimens, toy dinosaurs, educational books, jewelry, and t-shirts. Heart River Golf Course

The West River Community Center is a full-service leisure center with inside and outside water recreation, gymnasiums, racquetball, fitness center, locker rooms, and lounge area and community rooms. The indoor facility also includes tennis courts, golf, indoor swimming, a playground, and track. 

 Ukrainian Cultural Institute

The Ukrainian Cultural Institute is a house of features folk art cultural exhibits and religious displays and houses a study library. The beautiful hand-crafted “Pysanky” Easter Eggs are showcased, everyone independently created with themes and stories. Embroidered clothes adorn the walls next to the legacy paintings of the early settlers. Varenyky or pyrohy, better known as “cheese buttons,” are produced in the kitchen each day for user sales and distributed in stores across the Upper Midwest. Each July, the Ukrainian Festival showcases the history and the “Stepovi Dity” Ukrainian dancers in their colorful costumes.

Dickinson Independent School District

Dickinson Independent School District is a school district based in Dickinson, Texas, the United States in Greater Houston. DISD serves most of the city of Dickinson as well as portions of the cities of La Marque, League City, and Texas City and some houses in unincorporated Galveston County (including Bacliff and San Leon).

In 2009, the school district was rated “academically acceptable” by the Texas Education Agency. The total number of students is 9,800 and in Dickinson, it covers 11 School with 1350 staff members
